As a Wiccan, I practice Wiccan practices and incorporate some ancient Egyptian beliefs, practices and imagery into my personal path. There are some who attempt to practice the religion of ancient Egypt as it was done by the ancient Egyptians themselves. This is often called (by some) 'Orthodox' Egyptian religion. Many consider these practitioners pagan, although I've heard a few of the practitioners themselves say they are not pagan. In my mind, it doesn't really matter. It's all labels, and as humans we feel we have to label things in order to understand them. What really matters is not the labels, but what's in our hearts. In my heart I know I don't need to follow any sort of 'orthodox' egyptian doctrine to know that I am close to the Gods and Goddesses of ancient Egypt.
In my Wiccan path I've chosen as my patron deities (or was chosen by) Isis and Anubis. Also called Aset and Anpu, in the language of the Egyptians. However, I should say that Isis is not the only Goddess I consider my patron. As a wiccan we worship the Goddess in her triple aspects of Maiden, Mother and Crone. So I consider myself dedicated to Bast as Maiden (although she is also mother), Isis as Mother, and Sekhmet as Crone. I should point out that Egyptian deities are very different from most other deities... in that all of them tend to be mothers and fathers, and the Egyptian towns often had triple patrons; a mother, father and son. My patron deities are not related in this way, they all were patrons of their own particular provinces. Isis, and the worship of her was carried outside of Egypt throughout the mediterreanian and into Europe. Her cult went as far north as Britain, and south into Africa.
On this page I plan to put my research, invocations, and activities I have used to bring me closer to Isis, Anubis, Bast and Sekhmet. Keep an eye on this page and watch for additions as I add them.
Below you'll find links to other sites devoted to the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. I highly recommend following them if you are interested in learning more.
Akhet Hwt-Hrw Temple and school of Ancient Egyptian Religion. I think this is the best one out there! :)
The House of Netjer A lovely site devoted to what some call 'orthodox' ancient Egyptian Religion. I highly recommend this site for learning more about the Gods and Goddesses of ancient Egypt.
The Name of Bast This beautiful site is one of my favorites, it has lovely art and writings for Bast. I highly recommend it for learning more about the Lady Bast.
All Things Sekhmet I was delighted when I came upon this site, devoted entirely to Sekhmet. The author of this site follows the 'Five-Fold Path' as described in the book 'The Goddess Sekhmet' by Robert Masters. This site is a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about Sekhmet.
Our Lady of the Prairie Coven is the group which I am a member of, and this page describes basic Wiccan beliefs and practices. Also available from this page are links to pages describing how we practice some of our holidays and special days.
